Public Affairs Says Thank You

By:  Carol Coker

I wish to again thank the membership of the Antioch Woman’s Club for their generosity during the Holiday season.  We adopted two families from Open Arms Mission and provided them with a warm and wonderful Christmas.  We also collected $4,000 worth of toys, clothes, books, games and items for all ages for A Safe Place.  Their gratitude was heartfelt and as one resident said, “My kids are going to have a wonderful Christmas thanks to you”.

We have all heard of the problem of indentity theft.  I would like you to consider the following, this is a reprint from the 10th district newsletter Public Affairs article by Jeanne Travis:
1. When you check out of a hotel that uses cards for keys (and they all seem to do that now), DO NOT turn the “keys” in.  Take them with you and destroy them.  Those little cards have on them all of the information you gave the hotel, including address and credit card numbers and the expiration dates.  Someone with a card reader, or employee of the hotel, can access all that information with no problem whatsoever.
2. When you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them.  If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.
3. When you are writing checks to pay credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the “for” line.  Instead, just put the last four numbers.
We want to make it as difficult as possible for someone to steal your identity.  Have a safe and happy new year.

Heavenly Hats

This is a GFWC approved project which was started by a young man from Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Its purpose is to provide warm, soft, fuzzy and cute hats to cancer patients who because of chemotherapy have lost their hair.  We are currently involved in knitting these hats.  It is an easy pattern, and can be obtained off the internet at http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/kfancyf-chemoCap.html.  (Or just go to www.lionbrandyarn.com and follow the link to the charity projects.)  We are using size 11, 13, or 15 needles.  We are meeting every other Wednesday at 9:30a.m. at the
Meeting House in Antioch.  Please come and join us.  Knitting instruction is available for those interested in learning how to make these.  They also make neat hats for anyone.   For more information contact Carol Coker  847-395-4786
